Celebrating National Eczema Week and Opening of Laser Season in Fargo ND
As National Eczema Week approaches, we want to shed light on this common skin condition and explore effective treatment options. Additionally, with the commencement of laser season, it is the perfect time to highlight advanced laser treatments that can be used to combat eczema symptoms and more.
What is Eczema?
Eczema, also known as atopic dermatitis, is a chronic skin condition characterized by inflammation, redness, itching, rough patches of skin, and sometimes blistering. While the exact cause of eczema is not fully understood, it is believed to result from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Triggers can include irritants, allergens, stress, and climate changes. National Eczema Week serves as a reminder to raise awareness about this condition and provide support to those affected. Board-certified dermatologist Dr. Rachel Ness is pleased to offer advanced treatment options for eczema, including prescription medications and various laser treatments.
Laser Treatments for Eczema
As the cooler months approach and sun exposure decreases, it’s the ideal time to consider laser treatments for various skin concerns. During Laser Season, we encourage patients to consider the following laser treatment options to manage and combat eczema symptoms:
Xtrac® Excimer Laser
The Xtrac® Excimer Laser is one of our most popular treatment options for eczema and dermatitis. The Xtrac® laser uses targeted ultraviolet light to remove damaged skin cells without affecting the surrounding skin. When UVB energy penetrates the skin, it breaks down the DNA of T cells which are responsible for skin rashes and psoriasis plaques (itchy, rough patches of skin). This is a safe and effective treatment option for eczema in almost any area of the body. Patients should be prepared to receive a series of treatments, but symptoms can be resolved for many months.
CO2 Laser Resurfacing
CO2 laser resurfacing is another effective way to target eczema symptoms and restore healthy, smooth skin. The CO2 laser uses fractional energy to create tiny wounds on the surface of the skin. The body’s natural wound-healing process stimulates cell turnover and collagen production to resurface healthy skin cells and restore smoother skin free of itchiness or redness. Sun damage, signs of aging, and scarring can also be treated with this fractional laser treatment.
Phototherapy
Phototherapy is a different type of laser that uses light to target irregular pigmentation and uneven skin texture. BBL Hero uses broadband light energy for faster and more effective treatments and it has cooling technology to soothe skin irritation during treatment. BBL Hero treatments are especially effective for redness and inflammation but they can also address other skin concerns like sun damage, wrinkling, hyperpigmentation, and more.
